Erling Braut Haaland was born on 21 July 2000 in Leeds, England, while his father, former footballer Alf-Inge Haaland, was playing in England. When Erling was three years old, his family moved back to Norway, where he grew up in the town of Bryne and began developing his football skills at a young age.
Haaland started his senior career with Bryne FK before moving to Molde, where he developed into a promising young striker. His performances attracted international attention, and in 2019 he joined Red Bull Salzburg. He became a major European prospect after scoring a hat-trick on his Champions League debut against Genk.
In January 2020, Haaland moved to Borussia Dortmund. He continued his incredible goalscoring form in Germany, scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances across competitions. In 2022, he joined Manchester City, where he quickly became one of the Premier League’s leading goal scorers.
His first City season was historic. Haaland scored 36 Premier League goals in 2022/23, setting the record for the most goals by a player in a Premier League season. He also scored 52 goals in all competitions that season as City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
Haaland’s Highest Goals in One Match
Haaland’s biggest individual scoring performance came for Norway U-20 against Honduras at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored an incredible 9 goals in Norway’s 12-0 victory, a FIFA U-20 World Cup record for goals by one player in a match.
At senior club level, Haaland’s highest tally in a single match is 5 goals. He scored five against RB Leipzig in Manchester City’s 7-0 Champions League victory in March 2023. He repeated the achievement against Luton Town in a 6-2 FA Cup victory in February 2024.
In September 2026, Haaland reached the major milestone of 300 club goals, scoring the landmark goal against Coventry City for Manchester City.
